I last trapped this little spot in 2008. I went back on Saturday on a pre-season scouting trip. I was surprised to see that I must have left behind a squeaker (Wasatch Wildlife product). Apparently I took the trap . . . I can't figure out how or why I left the squeaker, but perhaps I put it in my coat pocket and then in my efforts to uncable the trap from the tree, it fell out of my pocket. Who knows? It was most likely in the dark and most likely there was snow on the ground.

In any event, notice the pile of droppings to the right of the squeaker, and the old pan cover I used back in that day. Man, that was a long time ago. I brought the squeaker home, reattached the battery wires that a fox or rodent had chewed in two, installed some new batteries and the unit came to life, playing the dying rabbit blues. Certainly a testament to a well-made, well-designed product.
