Was going through the last of a group of older traps I bought and have one that is a little different. Cant make out the pan yet, long spring, cast smooth jaws, about #1 in size. Thought it was a cast pan but closer inspection it isn't, its 2 piece. The post is whats different, made to sit sideways and pinched together to hold pan, as opposed to the other way around. I don't have a picture right now but have internet access so thought I'd post, can add pic later or tomorrow if its needed. Traps were all pretty common so don't think its to special, just one I haven't seen before. Thanks in advance for any info!... Al

Your trap was made by Oneida Community, around 1900, give or take a few years. It is likely a last model "The Victor", the original "Victor" trap. The first ones had cast pans. The two holes are a trapper modification. In this condition it has little value but still a collectable trap. The trap is not that bad, just the pan condition, pitted and not readable.

Here is a "The Victor" riveted pan on a post, #4. Same model as your trap. Pan reads, The Victor, No 4, Patented, Jan. 12, '86 - Jan. 25, '87.

Thank you snakecollector, Nice Trap! I appreciate the information. It is a shame about the pan, but it is what it is, to a wall it goes, but now with a tag identifying it. smile

Dean are the springs on the victors made of a heavier sheet metal than later victor traps?

Mike, Some of the early "The Victor" traps do have springs made of a heavier sheet stock than the later "The Victor" or "Victor" traps. The early springs may have been the same as the "Hawley & Norton" traps.
