I've heard other guys complain about the early 750's being too weak also, and had some problems holding beaver. I don't remember when I bought my first ones, but every 750 I've bought has had stout springs.

I guess they all work, I have a lot more of the CDRs though. Any of those other brands, I have no experience with, and I would never go to a double long spring trap ever again, other than the #4 victors I have now. And then it just for old times sake, and a front foot catch with a tight pocket .

The MB is more reasonable priced to I believe, and the CDR is available under a different name now, I hear.

I bought my MB 750's in the last 2 or three years. I've never thought about trying to set them over my knee. I'll play around with that but the springs seem pretty dang strong to me. I've been using setters. The good news is I've trapped 29 beaver in my first two years, with over half I my 750's.

I bought setters for my 750's soon after buying them. Those short levers were giving me fits when removing beaver from the wet muddy traps. Shoulda just bought the setters from the start.

The thing is about the 750 is that when there is a beaver caught, it almost requires you to step on the levers as one will be locked up tight if you try to open by hand, so you need setters, or step on things. With the CDR you need the setters anyway. I step on those wire levers to take out the beaver, and set the trap right then .

Agree with Les, The worse things about the 750s is getting them off of lockup with a beaver in them. I have 2 sets of setters but never handy. Always resort to beating them off lockup with a hatchet and swearing while trying not to drown.

They are fairly easy to set over the knee however. It's kind of like setting the big long springs. Just have to get the levers moving, then they open right up. Once the levers start to move, they soften up a LOT and you can hold, and even force, the jaws open very easily.

Nothing wrong with Bridger #5 double longsprings. Easy to set, and easy to bed.

We are totally iced up here, and sort of drought like to boot. It's 25 above right now, and it's been like that for a while.

yup, same deal, lol. When spring happens, it will happen all at once. A mild rain or two and a guy could have his hands full beaver trapping .

I used to use 14 jumps, but went to the MB750 and never looked back. I cant set mine by hand and use setters, they do lock up with a beaver in them. A question though. They don't like to stay adjusted, the pan either loosens and will not stay set or tightens up and smaller beaver jump all over them. Has anyone done anything to fix this, or am I the only one with this problem? Been tinking of usine different washers and bolts for the pan.

I don't do anything to the night latch. That trap comes ready to go. My old 750s came without night latches, not one of mine has it. My CDRs all have it.
