I know there was someone on here, and I don't remember who, that always posted pics of their dog riding on the rack of an ATV. I have a new pup and would like to train him to do this. For any of you that have done it, can you offer on advice on how you did it? Thanks.
Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.

Just tie him on.Once he gets dragged a few times he will learn not to jump off.

The same works for boats too.;

My dogs have just done it on there own. My last dog, Who could not keep up with an atv, would be put up on it. My current dog will just go anywhere I go. He loves going in the boat, but I have to watch him at a dock, because he will get in any boat. As far as teaching, put the dog on and give a treat. Just don't scare the dog, and he will get the hang of it.

I've got 3 dogs. One is a rat terrier that is 15 years old and you can do donuts on the 4 wheeler and not sling him off. One is a jack Russell and he will just about fall off going straight down the road. My lab is scared to death of it. Some dogs get it, some don't.

I have a seven month old portugese water dog. Rides an ATV, and even a jet ski like a champ. Boat didn't require training.
First step is the command sit. Sit means sit till I tell you to do something else. There is no stay. I also started her between my legs on the seat. Nice and secure so her feet didn't slide off. Now she jumps up on her own. On the waverunner she sits up front still, and on the ATV she goes in the back box now and doesn't move. I can even get off the bike and do whatever and she stays there. If I go out of sight she will break, but she is only seven months old and I am a bit lazy with the training. If the dog tries to stand, tap the brakes and jerk the bars around a bit so the dog feels unsteady. Also, do something fun when you get where you are going. If dog doesn't sit and stay sitting, the bike stops. She learned that real fast. She will be able to go on the snowmobile easily also when we get winter back. Just have to modify the box on the back for some warmth

That would be that handsome fella Tac .20 Finally someone noticed how handsome I am!! Lmao My dogs quickly learned to hop on atv, it's much better than running behind it, lol I let Lacy down when I stop, by the time I'm ready to set traps or snares she usually has already sniffed n peed and already back on atv seat. I built a small platform for her front feet on my right side of atv

Thanks everyone. Hutchy, what you said was about what I had in mind as far as training goes. And now that illinideer mentioned it, I do have a different back rack with a lip on it that would be perfect for that, need to put that one on there.
Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.
