If your a legal gun owner and either open carry or conceal carry should you fear the police if they come near you ?

Even if you pose no threat , is it ok for a cop to shoot you ?

If your shirt comes up revealing a weapon for self defense and you are near a cop , do you become a threat or are you still a law abiding citizen exersizeing your 2nd amendment rights ?

Goes to the mindset of how officers are trained today. Everyone and everything is such a threat that lethal force is always option one when in doubt.

Just watching that small clip of video that is a tough situation to be in for the cops, hard to know how to react when people are physically fighting and suddenly a gun comes out.

Why carry in a bar?
Why wasn't it secured?

And just think if game wardens reacted this way?

Not enough information for me to judge on this shooting. I would think once the police officers arrived he should have step back and let them take over. But who knows. JMO

Why does it always seem like at the very moment the incident occurs, the person filming turns away from what needs to be seen lol.

Pros and cons to everything. Kind of like driving a car...Might get dead doing that, too.

Both carrying a gun...and driving a car carries a lot of responsibility (and risks) for all involved.

What if he was an off duty cop ?

What if he accidentally dropped his piece and like any normal thinking person , automatically and responsibly retrieved it ?

Should he be shot for containing his firearm ?

Or should he pose some sort of threat before being gunned down ?

Though sad for the dead guy's family and the cop who pulled the trigger, friends don't let friends carry drunk.

Police policy needs to change. There are good cops out there, but there is a LOT wrong with policing today. I highly recommend the book Rise of the Warrior Cop by Radley Balko to anyone who is interested in learning more on the issue.

The real question here is , as gun owners should we fear the police for possessing and exercising our 2nd rights ?

I remember 20 yrs or more ago before I had a cc permission slip I would just place my loaded pistol on the dash when pulled over .

If I do that today I may very well be executed

I guess if you wanna walk the walk you need to talk the talk,in other words if you carry a gun and you feel you may be shot-shoot first.

It's a one way street ...........

I used to tote mama's .38 at 16 to go fishing. The local deputies just told me to keep it out of sight.
Times have changed and not for the better.

We don't need a carry permit here in AK, but we are required by law to notify any peace officers we are armed, as soon as we encounter them.
