If you aren't a LEO you don't know jack crap about how we think or feel about this. I cant think of any, whether County, Municipal, State or Federal who would back the confiscation of firearms. We would align with the protectors of the second amendment and move to the forefront of delivering, those, who chose to infringe on our freedoms to room temperature.
Let this happen and see how many LEO's are out on the street in uniform. We wont be. We will be beside you dealing with the problem.

Since LE won't do it I wonder how states like IL MA NY CA etc enforce their bans licensing requirements etc?

I don't know if the NJ story has all the details but I am fully aware that many in LE don't think people ought to defend themselves or own the means to do so. In some states a pocket knife will be confiscated. Confiscated by Law Enforcement. To say guns wont be is ludicrous.

All you need to do to get cops on board with confiscation is to make them fear the armed citizen.
Confiscation would be a law that was passed and no different than the very harsh anti gun laws that are enforced by police in some parts of this country. In some of those areas confiscation is already enforced by law enforcement.
