it isn't about being a gourmet cook , but a good hearty hot meal is good for the body not hard to make and can be very inexpensive
99 cent 5pound sack of taters
99 cent 2 pounds of carrots
99 cent 3 pound sack of onions
scrounge in the freezer for meat if you dig deep enough your likely to find a few pounds of last years ground venison
a few spices you just grab some out of the cupboard at home. salt , pepper , bay leaves , garlic powder .
a few loaves of bread , make some sandwiches to take out for lunch and bread to have stew over , sop up the juices with more bread and the bowl is almost clean , a very little wash and it's done.
and you spend less money than your canned stuff and pop tarts. I don't know about you but I never ate a pop tart and said , oh that was good and am I ever full.
that said , we eat like kings , full turkey dinner , my mom makes up a big pan of Lasagna and sends it up frozen, but we have a regular kitchen with an oven and fridge in addition to the coolers on the porch.
I didn't even mention the tins of cookies wives and grand daughters send and the pies my cousins wife sends.

I bring several pounds of cheese.
we do have a crock pot of stew that stays going lunch, breakfast or when ever your hungry it is there.
one year we had a new guy my dad invited , dad told him to pick up some shrimp and sauce didn't ask him to bring any other groceries, well he was very excited to be asked to come hunt he brought so many shrimp , we skipped dinner and just sat around drinking and eating shrimp I think we each ate a pound.
