Trees are looking a wee bit close to the cabin ?

Not a problem nessy as long as none are leaning toward the camp.

The big pine is close but leaning away. Also, and almost more importantly, it's leaning with the prevailing winds. And I am going to trim any small ones around it. Anything upwind of the cabin poses no threat from what I can see.

Also, just ordered two solid brass commercial grade sprinklers for each end of the cabin on the roof. Going to rig them to some self draining copper pipe, and then to a fire pump fitting I will cap off to keep critters out. Should keep it safe on the event of a forest fire. Been on some fire suppression websites and the pictures of cabins that have been saved by sprinkler systems have me convinced of their effectiveness.

I removed the trees from around my camp to prevent the roots pulling out if they did blow over and damaging my concrete posts. Also my roof is shingled and would allow moss to grow. Without the trees I think it allows the camp materials to dry properly and not promote rot. IMOP

My piers are pinned to bedrock with epoxied in rebar, but that does raise a good point. Unless growing on very shallow soil our pines tend to break at the trunk once the trunks start to rot, etc. I am using galvanized steel roofing, so rot shouldnt be a huge issue for me. The bulk of the big pines needles are not over the camp which is nice. Hardly any of them actually. We were noticing yesterday there is actually a big open hole in the canopy over the cabin. We noticed it as the sun was directly overhead and baking us for an hour or so. lol

I do need to clear out some smaller trees around it to make the space a bit more functional however for atvs and sleds.

Looking at the low window ... If heating with wood build a box attached to and on the outside of the house with doors on the inside of the house to store wood! Nice when it's cold and wet not to have to go out. Saves space and keeps all the mess outside ..

The plan is to have an overhang about six feet on one side of the building (the side facing the hill). That way it is nice and dry. The cabin is divided in two, with an 8x14 skinning room at one end. There is a door in the skinning room that opens under the overhang, and the stove is beside the door that goes into the living quarters portion.

I will still have to go outside this way, but at least the mess is outside!

I just remembered that guy with the cowboy hat ,on that Alaska show.....takes all the trees away from the dwelling...Incase of wind and snow ,ice.....just saying

An ice storm will remove the odd limb, and I guess wind can obviously bring down a tree. Have to see what happens I guess! It's a roll of the dice, but rather like being in the trees a bit. I like shade haha

Thanks 330. The wife and I are having fun with it. Plus, as a builder I have so much free building material it's not funny. I guarantee it will be the first trap cabin ever with all stainless countertops and laminate and tile flooring. I figure if I got it for free, may as well install it!

I like building things, especially cabins in the woods, it's good therapy for about anything.

totally. I have the generator out to runt he compressor and nail gun, and I hate the noise. I cant wait till framing is over and I can go back to the quiet and pick away at it.

I was waiting for a friend to lift some walls on the weekend and quite enjoyed a half hr nap before him and my wife showed up. Silence except for crickets and birds.

Backroadsarcher, the mosquitos have been almost nonesistent for a few weeks. Only a few near the water in the evenings.

The deer flies are thick in a few places, but in the bush they are fine. Kill a few then no more for a while.

Been so dry for so long the mosquitos are toast and don't move around in the day
