Their target audience is not you or me or most Americans. Fox News has dominated among all news networks for "the 25th consecutive month" -
https://thepoliticalinsider.com/fox-news-ratings-dominates/ They're trying to gin up outrage and hysteria among their dwindling viewers because they have nothing left in their arsenal. The Russian nonsense was a big nothing burger, so they need to replace that dead narrative with the next dying narrative to maintain the standard outrage among their constituents.
They're also losing market share to "alternative" online news sources in a big way. Here's what
PEW reported in September 2017:
The share of Americans who often get news from TV – whether from local TV news, nightly network TV news or cable news – is down from 57% in early 2016. At the same time, the portion of Americans often getting news online, either from news websites/apps or social media, grew from 38% in early 2016 to 43% today.
In January, 2018,
Gallop reported:
Americans' perceptions of news media bias have increased significantly over the past generation. Thirty-two percent believe the news media are careful to separate fact from opinion, well below the 58% who held this view in 1984. Meanwhile, 66% currently agree that most news media do not do a good job of letting people know what is fact and what is opinion, up from 42%.
Bottom line: The online sourcing of news by Americans is sky rocketing, and the Leftwing media conglomerates are doing whatever they can to keep their legacy fake-news flotilla from sinking. They've been jumping the shark for some time now...
