Yesterday was a slow day with 7 or 8 candas and a speck between my brother and myself. Today we took my youngest sister out for her first waterfowl hunt. We did alright. The pup Duke is starting to figure out how to grab those big Canada’s. We seem to have shot a rather large run of candas lately. Bet they are averaging ten pounds. Back to work tomorrow. Been a fairly decent start to the season

Proud owner moment we sailed a duck into a dry slough and at the end of the hunt went to look for
It. Sent duke into the sloigh down wind and within a few minutes he had found the duck!! I was pretty impressed

Nice going looks like you got another hunting partner

We are not even seeing geese, worst start in many years.

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

That is a great day. I had goose hunting in my blood bad for many years. I haven't hunted them now for a few but I need to start.

Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

We sure have different limits here in WI but I guess i would not want to be cleaning 6-8 geese a day either.

Looks like a real good day to me .Your dog will amaze you a lot more over the next 10 to 15 years .What kind of crop was planted in the field where the pictures are taken?

I'll be glad when the Speck's make it a lot further south. Speck and Snow goose hunting has turned into about my favorite thing. Great pictures...d2

It was a pea field. Even for a pea field this one was barren. Seemed like it was 90% dirt. We ended up hiding along the edge of a dry slough. We would have really hammered the birds if we could have been a couple hundred yards out into the field

The past couple years I have just started building a snow spread. Up to 20 dz decoys now and a caller. Can’t wait to try it out this fall

You must be hunting the Western part of Sask. I hunted up there for about 15 yrs in a row and it was good. In about 3 wks the white geese will be there.

Yes I was. Moved to the east side of SK and hadn’t shot a speck since. This winter moved back to the west side but up along the forest edge. Barely any harvest done here so I went back home down south for the weekend. Had to get the pup on some birds.

Often around the 10th of september I usually get the first snow shoot of the year in. Often it’s pretty heavy on Ross and can be pretty good

Awesome! Wish I could get out. I haven't been able to do any hunting yet. Pup looks like she's doing well, too.

Yes lots of Ross Geese. We never shot a Blue over on the west side. We averaged 69 Geese a day for 15 or 16 yrs. We had the Duck in the decoys before legal shooting hrs then came the Specks. Next the white geese and last were the Honkers.

I was running all Northwind decoys and putting out between 600 to 1000 decoys a day and about 30 hovering decoys.

The trick is getting in the spot where they were the night before. Them big Wheat and Pea field sometime had very little cover to hide in. Is why we used so many hovering decoys.
