I don't know for sure but would guess around WW1. It sure is cool!!

I think it’s older than that catch, the links look forge welded. But it could be from then. It’s a cool old piece for sure!!!

OP, If that was an actual trace chain from a government mule harness. Nothing has changed ! The Links have no stress wear marks. Nothing has changed in Government , No Work....... Tut

Wissmiss I have a piece of chsin like that around here somewhere. I always figured it was connected to the Calvary, it looks like the chain used for hooking to single trees.
I just looked at the entire post and see this has already been said.
