I'm wondering about the bolt on teeth on this trap. Was it some kind of option or just a trapper modification? How much will it hurt the value if a trapper mod?

Also, does this look like markings of an US government stamping or at least of a government trapper?

Teeth added in by a trapper or someone working for a trapper.
The lap on the base is wrong so is the lap connecting the drag.
The us marking could very well be a government trapper or agency. I see numbered markings very simular to that coming out of registered trapline country, just without the US on them.

I think the older and rarer the trap, the more the modifications will decrease value. In the case of your 4 1/2, I would not deduct for the teeth or stamp. Both nicely done. But as stated, I would be concerned with the base link and drag connector. And I would take a real close look at that drag.
