Nice job! mine is coming a little slower than I'd like because of the rain and issues with lining stuff up to get my logs on my property. still hoping to have done by the start of the season though.

Went out today and got the rafters on. One more day of fascia, and then plywood, ice and water shield and metal.

This time the dog slept and I had to work. Wife is pretty tired too as she carried all the lumber up, and lifted all the rafters up to me.

I am going with a good size overhang on the back for sleds, firewood, etc.

The corner is not closed in yet as you can see. Made a wall too short and need to insulate the corner before I close it in. Need the room on for that otherwise the insulation will get all soggy. Makes a good place to pass in material though. Door and window openings need to be cut out still, then wrap it with tyvec and install Windows. Easy peasy, just need time to do it!

Was gonna use roxul mineral wool, but man the stuff is pricey. I always use roxul in a house, but in a cabin I am good with regular old pink fiberglass insulation.

The floor is already spray foamed to about r20. Because the skinning section is going to be heated full time with a small direct vent propane heater I will likely put a layer of polyiso foam on the inside of the 8x14 skinning portion since I wanna limit the propane i haul out there. 100 lb tanks are heavy and suck.

The insulation will be the single most expensive part. Aside from the osb wall and roof sheathing the rest of the wood is either culled lumber, or acquired for other things and repurposed. Ain't no one culling and repurposing insulation. Has to be new.

Most everything else from windows to flooring was free or almost free. I can afford a bit of insulation

Besides fire prevention what are the advantages for Roxul in lieu of fiberglass?

Roxul has a few advantages. First, it has a higher r value over fiberglass. Pink has an r 20 rating, roxul is r22 for a 2x6 wall. Because it is so much stiffer than pink, you can cut it exactly to fit and when you press it into a stud opening you are assured there are no air cavities you can't see. And another huge one, it doesn't itch when installing it!

Everything is looking good so far. I like the idea for the oversized overhang to store wood under.

Hutchy, that's awesome! You're living my dream, brother. I always wanted to move to your neck of the woods and could have years ago, but didn't due to other obligations. Now I'm too poor and gimpy to do it.LOL I do have a little trapping/hunting shack in the Adirondacks, where I'm originally from, but it isn't the same. I'm happy to have it, regardless.

Good luck with everything, I'll be following along. Oh, yeah. I know It's tempting not to, but I've found if you give your wife a short break once or twice a week, you'll get more work out of her in the long run.LOL

Is the cabin in the adirondaks on private land? How does that work out there?

Hutchy, she looks young and strong, so I was thinking a short break once or twice a week should do it, LOL Yeah, she sounds like a keeper for sure buddy, you're a lucky man.

My cabin sets back in off the road on three acres that I own and It's surrounded by state land. I'm sure It's nothing compared to what you have there, but there's in the neighborhood of 60 square miles of woods around me and if you cross the dirt road to the west, or a main road to the east, you cross into tracts twice that size. There are some fairly big woods to my north and south too. I've been running those woods all my life and I still only know a fraction of them well. We can't build permanent structures, or cut standing trees for firewood on state land, but we can camp, hunt fish, trap, whatever on it. There are private parcels throughout the Adirondacks, but there is a lot of state land to enjoy. 6 million acres, if I remember right and the state buys up more all the time. I love it, but again, my dream was always to move up to your neighborhood. Thanks for the build a long, I'm enjoying it.

No pics to show today. Mostly because it doesn't look like I did anything today!

Steph had to work, so I took the day to do the blocking at the wall between the rafters, cut the rafters to final length, finish nailing off everything we did last time, and made and installed the lookouts to hold up the overhangs.

Next weekend the fascia goes on, and it's plywood time for the roof! Then it is rain proof and all the interior pine, windows, flooring, cabinets and allllll the other crap that has been accumulating can come out and go under the overhang.

Finally free up some space around the house!

Wasn't hot today, but the humidity...ended up drinking five liters of water just out there.

Catch you all after.

Great picture. You have to take into consideration the mental strain overseeing a project like that can have on a dog. LOL

Got roof weather tight for now. Just roofliner, but it will work till I install the steel. Finally got the yard sort of cleaned up. Got all the interior, windows, doors, cabients, chimney, etc out to the site. Lots of hauling today! I actually had to do some work today! Glad it's getting cooler out.

I just wanted to get them roof to be waterproofed and bring stuff out, then when the ice comes I can walk in and work on it when work slows down. One more load of material, and roofing metal to go and I am all set.
