The other point of my story is the Gov is wanting to hold the first responders liable IF they don't administer it !!!!!

Let the first responders have it if THEY need it not some low lifer !!!!!

Many family members are po's. Two in Detroit in fact. I'm not entirely sure of where you pulled $1,300 from but I'd like to be that supplier. Out of pocket is $120-$140 for narcan and $20-$40 for the generic, as mentioned. The cost savings I'm referring to, if you'll note in the post, is throughout the remaining time of emergency. i.e. in ambulance, at hospital, etc. Stop the od faster, stop the snow-ball effects of the od and its damage to the body thereby reducing the medical costs incurred at hours 1-end of emergency. Anywho - we were having a nice little talk w/ differing ideas there for a minute.

DaYooper yeah it's disappointing to see people who can't have a civil rational debate and without name calling and such, making points and debating them. People don't have to agree. Treating the person you disagree with as a buffoon and the enemy is childish and unnecessary. MAke your point and try to prove it, like you did with your info on drug prices. Name calling is a sign that you know you're losing the debate.

If the constitution doesn't grant the authority to do something, the feds cant do it.

I've heard that there's no Constitutional requirement for Income Taxes either.

Article 1 Section 8 clause 1: The congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes...I guess there's no requirement, but there is authority. Also the 16th amendment gives authority for income tax, specifically.

The insulin debate is actually a little interesting to me. Clearly there are situations where first responders NEED insulin immediately. So if we are pushing Narcan, why not insulin? Or albuterol (for an asthma attack).

I can't give any of the above. Cant even give someone with a headache aspirin ….but I am mandated to push Narcan? Hmmmmm.

Loosee. I haven't checked on Narcan.. but I know where most GRANTS some from....Feds. There's a loophole to everything in Govt. Work for govt and it doesn't take long to realize they do whatever they want.

Calvin life giving drugs given in an emergency are different than paying for healthcare or giving free medicine to people who couldn't otherwise afford it. And yeah, I work for a local police station as a mechanic, and they do whatever they want, right or wrong, they just hide it well for the most part. Waste a whole lot of money, too.

I would want my son or daughter to have it once. They would get a second chance. Thankfully I did a great job raising my two kids and to the parents that lack loving and common sense what is society suppose to do?

It is sad to know that if two druggies are together, and one OD's, it is very common for the other to leave the scene and let his fellow druggie die of the OD rather than contact authorities.

I believe you may have skipped over the first sentence in the third paragraph of this image. $20....... You may be confusing the auto-injection device called Evzio with the Narcan referenced in topic header and subsequent threads, is the nasal spray

Here's some more information should you wish to read up on it for future reference.

http://stopoverdoseil.org/assets/naloxone-fact-sheet.pdf

"Naloxone is cost effective. It costs between $20-$40 dollars for a full naloxone kit, which includes everything a person would need to reverse an overdose. Money spent distributing naloxone provides tremendous value for every dollar spent. An overdose death by comparison costs taxpayers about $30,000."

CVS offering coupon for brand name @ $94.99:
https://cvshealth.com/newsroom/press-rel...-about-naloxone

Here's a more accurate current price sheet:
https://www.goodrx.com/narcan

All of that doesn't account into the purchasing power of a larger entity buying in bulk.

Another good link to read up on - https://www.drugabuse.gov/related-topics/opioid-overdose-reversal-naloxone-narcan-evzio

One last response to the price. YES the retail price is for over the counter NARCAN. BUT if it is given by some ER Dr or an EMT in an emergency scenario what do you think it will cost ????? If a hospital charges $250 for a Tylenol what do you think the cost of narcan will be ????

I bet 1300 bucks won't even be close !!!!!!!!!!!

I'll do one of those last post things here as we're going in a circle. Again - you are quoting Evzio, the auto-injector. FYI - Article is dated 4/29/16

https://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm472958.htm

"FDA approved Narcan nasal spray, the first FDA-approved nasal spray version of naloxone hydrochloride, a life-saving medication that can temporarily stop or reverse the effects of an opioid or heroin overdose. This prescription product is approved for use in adults and children and can be easily administered by first responders, family members, or caregivers."
