REALLY !!! You need to talk to a police officer in a city. SAVE ON COST !!! The fact it is even being paid for and used on junkies BUT we can't "give children and elderly life saving meds is my point.. PLUS this summer when the OD's went thru the roof SEVERAL where repeat offenders. One individual Od'ed 6 times in 5 days. Each time a 1300 dollar dose of narcan was used. So please explain to me the cost savings involved in "bringing him" back. Cremation ain't that high !!!
The other point of my story is the Gov is wanting to hold the first responders liable IF they don't administer it !!!!!
Let the first responders have it if THEY need it not some low lifer !!!!!
Many family members are po's. Two in Detroit in fact. I'm not entirely sure of where you pulled $1,300 from but I'd like to be that supplier. Out of pocket is $120-$140 for narcan and $20-$40 for the generic, as mentioned. The cost savings I'm referring to, if you'll note in the post, is throughout the remaining time of emergency. i.e. in ambulance, at hospital, etc. Stop the od faster, stop the snow-ball effects of the od and its damage to the body thereby reducing the medical costs incurred at hours 1-end of emergency. Anywho - we were having a nice little talk w/ differing ideas there for a minute.

The narcan isn't just for the drug users. More often it's used for first responders who accidentally come in contact with opiods, typically fentanyl. And as unfortunate as it may be, I don't see where the constitution gives the federal government the authority to regulate drug prices or provide free medicine. If the constitution doesn't grant the authority to do something, the feds cant do it. I've heard that there's no Constitutional requirement for Income Taxes either.

Article 1 Section 8 clause 1: The congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes...I guess there's no requirement, but there is authority. Also the 16th amendment gives authority for income tax, specifically.

I would want my son or daughter to have it once. They would get a second chance. Thankfully I did a great job raising my two kids and to the parents that lack loving and common sense what is society suppose to do?

My bad ! Price was 4,000 for name brand I under shot it. !!!!!!!!!! But that is for 2 doses so even in ky that's 2,000 a pop..... I believe you may have skipped over the first sentence in the third paragraph of this image. $20....... You may be confusing the auto-injection device called Evzio with the Narcan referenced in topic header and subsequent threads, is the nasal spray Here's some more information should you wish to read up on it for future reference. http://stopoverdoseil.org/assets/naloxone-fact-sheet.pdf"Naloxone is cost effective. It costs between $20-$40 dollars for a full naloxone kit, which includes everything a person would need to reverse an overdose. Money spent distributing naloxone provides tremendous value for every dollar spent. An overdose death by comparison costs taxpayers about $30,000." CVS offering coupon for brand name @ $94.99: https://cvshealth.com/newsroom/press-rel...-about-naloxoneHere's a more accurate current price sheet: https://www.goodrx.com/narcanAll of that doesn't account into the purchasing power of a larger entity buying in bulk. Another good link to read up on - https://www.drugabuse.gov/related-topics/opioid-overdose-reversal-naloxone-narcan-evzio

I'll do one of those last post things here as we're going in a circle. Again - you are quoting Evzio, the auto-injector. FYI - Article is dated 4/29/16 https://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm472958.htm"FDA approved Narcan nasal spray, the first FDA-approved nasal spray version of naloxone hydrochloride, a life-saving medication that can temporarily stop or reverse the effects of an opioid or heroin overdose. This prescription product is approved for use in adults and children and can be easily administered by first responders, family members, or caregivers."
