I feel very badly for those who lost their lives and for their family and friends. It was no fault of theirs that a hate filled psychopath shot up their religious service. However, this is happening both in the US and Europe, and perhaps also in other parts of the world we don't here about. In the US we have the 2nd amendment that allows us to arm and defend ourselves, but too few take advantage of that freedom, sadly to their own demise.

My neighbor and his wife attend a local church in which armed members of the congregation provide protection at every service. I think every church in the country would be wise to do the same. Criticizing the political and social climate is not an answer, taking responsibility for your own protection as allowed by our Constitution IS the answer. Voting in candidates that will gut our constitutional freedom to arm and protect ourselves is definitely not the solution, but for some reason the Jewish community is strongly democrat. This I don't understand especially after the way Obama treated Israel during his presidency.

The open letter was produced by 11 people (presumably Jews) from a Pittsburgh affiliate of the activist group Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice. I don't think 11 Jews constitute a representative sample of the Jewish people, let alone any ethnic or religious group.
