Wow, so the program was a failure? That's weird they couldn't handle the heat?

never seen this deer before. I did have pics of him two days in a row prior to this morning. He was there in the afternoon at 5;30. I am betting he came back through those following mornings but walked on a trail that was behind that camera. He was walking parallel to a deep draw working scrapes that he must have put there because they haven't been there. I do have a scent dripper that he was straight downwind of and I had Fox Hollow doe in heat in it. May have helped may not have. One tactic that has always produced for me when the mature bucks start roaming is to hunt these draws in the bottlenecks. Over the years I have taken a many a buck by waiting until the time is right and sticking to my tactic. My hypothesis is that these bucks walk the creeks and draws as it allows them to scent check every trail that crosses them. They can cover more ground and when they hit the hot trail their actions are immediate. They do the same thing on old logging roads that run through a tract of woods.

That's a good deer. Period. Most of the negative comments or less than positive were posted before the pictures were posted.

No, I think it was successful...

I know that a lot of northern deer were brought to TEXAS before CWD was discovered and they did fine, but most were brought into game farms and held in pens about 40 acres... they were breeders and the young deer from their mating were released...

Good Luck and God Bless you and yours,

bulletbox,
TEXAS

First off we don't have the agriculture feed like you do...

Second if your deer were down here, they wouldn't make it through the summer, like ours wouldn't make it through your winter, mostly because of body size... those big deer couldn't take the heat, just like a fat boy can't take the heat, unless they are raised in it...

Your deer need the big body size to survive the cold...

What I always heard things are bigger in Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great deer !!! Congrats

Wow! Gorgeous deer!

Wisconsin deer grow up to be heavier than 200 pounds if they aren't shot too soon.

pcr, after the shot it went faster than pitter patter, I was calm as a cucumber until he crashed 26 yards within sight, Then the shakes took hold.

I have taken two deer here in East Tx that the live weight was just over 200 pounds. Both were 7.5 year olds. Tougher than boot leather. It is rare to find a mature buck moving in the daylight. You have to hunt all day and be persistent as hec. Both of these bucks were way past their prime for antler development. A lot of hunters have stated accepting the 13 inch spread rule. More are feeding protein during the antler growing period, which also helps with body weight and overall health of the deer.

On my bucket list is to hunt whitetail in Canada. The body size of those bucks is outrageous.
