Hey guys,
This is my first year attempting to trap canines. I was wondering if anybody has used dog/cat food, deer scraps, etc. for trapping fox and coyote? How did that go?

Thank you!

In Jesus,
Jonny

I think if you use dog/cat food you will end up with coon, skunks, and grinners. Not that you won't anyway.

Scraps of deer meat will work well. Get yourself some Dobbins bait solution. It will come with a bottle of free lure right now too. Put those scraps in a jar and add some bait solution and you will have an excellent bait, and a really good lure to use.

Tainted slightly for canines works well.

Can't use game animals for bait in Iowa, I use fat from steaks, chops, chicken skin I cut off before cooking and a professional bait from Ogorman, he has several

whether you want to hear it or not a good prepared bait like appleroad, powder river, Hiawatha valley etc will out perform any straight meat bait under any conditions.

Apple Road bait is definitely the best bait I have ever used.

Agree, Danny. Many are tried and true.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Pre made bait as stated above is a wise buy, IMO. I like the Appleroad, too.

If you really want to save a few cents, many lure makers (Dobbins, Jameson, etc) will sell you the good stuff ( bait solution) in a bottle where you can just add it to your own meat.
