Just got off the phone with a bush pilot friend in Watson Lake. He said the RCMP and Fish Game just chartered a plane to go up north to investigate an incident. Sounds like maybe two people were killed. I'm assuming it was trappers but thats only speculation on my part at this point. It happened up north of Mayo somewhere. A good friend of mine had a grizzly running around on his trapline last week so they are still out in some areas. We saw more grizzly bears this past fall than I can remember so the population is high. Be careful out there and pack some protection.

That's sad news Yukon. The wife showed me a facebook post made today of a black bear walking across the river right in town.Way late for them to be running around especially in town.

Boco our weather has been warm and a few grizzly have been seen. I got a bit more information about an hour ago. Dont want to say to much yet but early reports are that it was a wife and child that were killed. I think I know who it was, and if I'm right, a lot of guys on here will have seen them on TV. Really sad deal.

Man, we still have no snow, here. Season for most furbearers opens Saturday. I will be setting up wolverine cubbies in the next couple of days, hoping to avoid problems. I have had bear issues before, and go out of my way to avoid them.
Wolverine has been open since the 10'th, but too dicey.

CBC reporting that trapper's wife and child killed, and her husband attacked by the same grizzly when he returned to the cabin. Apparently, he killed the bear. Sad news

Interesting fact, I knew the guy who used to own this same trapline well. He had to kill a big grizzly in the middle of winter one year. I saw pictures of the bear and it was a big old boar.

My thoughts too.

Im guessing they didnt have a dog around.

My youngest and her husband have been out on their line since early Oct. They have an inreach so we can communicate and she told us tonight that they saw where a grizzly was following a moose today, so they are moving around.

I read those comments and more. It is beyond my reasoning and thought pattern to begin to understand how some folks perceive things.
God Bless the man living through this nightmare and I wish him the strength to recover.
One thing learned, I did not know a bear could smell blood from 25 miles away.

Just heard that another Yukon trapper had to kill a grizzly. He scared it away from his cabin, but it came back during the night and tried getting in through a window.

Griz are out in the Yukon and no snow in Alaska, while we have no had above freezing temperature for a month, nothing but dead gray skies and snow. Even with bears, I live in the wrong Arctic section of Minnesota.

I did and you're right, there's some truly heartless and ignorant people in this world. May I offer my sympathies to this poor soul in what has to be a dark time for him.

Thanks for posting this story and the link to the news article, Yukon. It's a sad reminder that none of us can let our guard down when we are afield.

Very sad event. We had a few out later this year too. Had one buddy getting his marten eaten by a grizzly until about third week of November.
