I tell you what fellow trappers don Powell has the best ran trapping event in the country. The food the people, and the wealth of knowledge is unbelievable. Everyone is willing to share and nothing is held back. From mink to coyote, to Fisher, coon, and bear and everything else in between its covered. I got lots of pics and videos. Got video of zagger and several others. I get time I will post some pics. Dfabs I have some pics taken from opposite sideof the stream. Should be interesting to compare my view, to your view. Special thanks to Don for making my weekend one to remember. Till next year. Tight chains.

I drove down to Des Moines and picked up Red O'Hearn. Andy Weiser had vehicle issues and couldn't make it. 1100 miles one way. Great time, you won't meet a nicer guy than Don Powell, ongoing demos, three meals a day including a roast hog one night and steaks on another night. He has two chefs who spend all their time preparing meals. Lots of good trappers to share ideas with. One of the highlights of my trip was getting a knock on my hotel room door, and seeing Russ Carman standing there. Had a good visit with him, always liked his books.

Certainly a different style of trapping out East, they use a lot of blind sets and trail sets for mink, where I would just punch in a pocket or make a crude cubby if you can't dig into the bank. Not that I can't make a blind set, pockets are just so much easier and faster, and I think, more effective in the Midwest. They have much harder setting conditions to contend with. It is always a plus to be able to see another good trapper's methods and reasoning behind them. And this event is loaded with good trappers, both land and water. No big egos at the event, just trappers sharing information and learning from each other. I guarantee that if you go, you will be glad you did.

The Mink Trapping Hall of Fame Award was a surprise and quite humbling when you look at being placed in the same category as some of the past recipients. Certainly it is something that I appreciate very much and will remember for the rest of my life.

Don is a class act and puts his heart and soul into this event. He should be quite proud of what he has accomplished. I'm honored to call him my friend.

Thank you Gerald. It was an honor to see all of you guys coming in the drive and sharing a camp fire. Congratulations on the Hall of Fame Award. Minktoberfest 2019 promises to be a good one with all of the guys who are planning on attending.

Good to hear Newt. Ronaround there are fields that provide primitive camping. Hotels are 15 minutes away.

Suppose this frog is the handiwork of a mink? There was fresh mink sign nearby.

Usually when I see frogs like that it is a mink kill. If you look the frog over you will probably see 2 punctures on the sides of the neck.
