Our Governor closed bear hunting on state land this year, saying that those bears are not trouble makers. Three years or so ago a bear killed and ate a guy in NJ and he was hiking on state land. Never let the facts get in the way of an opportunity to close land to hunting.

It’s not clear what caused the bear to attack, but officials with the game commission said the bear may have been attracted to deer parts from a recent hunting trip that was left near the woman’s home.

There were very good reasons for our ancestors to exterminate large predators from human habitated areas, but liberals have forgot.

There were very good reasons why our ancestors fought to prevent mass migration by foreigners and people of to different values and liberals forgot those too.

Those that can't remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Liberals are condemning all of us.

Just normal predatory bear behavior the "officials" don't want to acknowledge!

it is tragic some one lost their life.

with documented bear encounters and survival there is now enough data on bear and human encounters largely law enforcement now that they know 9mm , 40S&W and 45acp are actually all fairly effective in defense from a bear , the important thing seems to be get multiple hits.

while previous belief was it took a large heavy caliber magnum to defend against a bear.

no handgun against a bear is ideal , but reduction in human injury certainly favors an easy to carry, quick handling semi automatic handgun with standard capacity magazines like those carried by LEO.

the actually organs of a bear are about the same as a large man so it stands to reason the same tool works for defense from both.

these hand guns are certainly not death rays and the bear often traveled some distance but it made the bear decide to stop in most documented encounters .

She's not dead yet.

This didn't happen far from me. She got between mom and her cubs.

If that's the situation then, WHY did the bear drag her off 80 yards or so. Sounds like predatory behavior to me.

Sounds like her Chihuahua ran out towards either the bear or her cubs. She went after the dog. The besr went after her and the dog.

You have to actually know something in order to forget it!

Clinton County has some of the best black bear hunting in the lower 48.

coonsbane back in the 80's, I saw i80 shut completely down when a semi hit a bear by snowshoe. interstate was under construction. one lane each direction with barricades. bear climbed over a barricade. was wadded up under the truck. front end was toast. took awhile for a tow truck to get there.

Some may find this odd but Maine has more bears then any state in the lower 48 yet Maine has never had a bear fatality and only a mauling every 10-15 years. Any of you want to guess why? I have my own theory.
