I bet nobody gets a tax refund till the shutdown is over. Wife said the IRS was accepting but not processing any of her new employees paperwork.

It hasn't affected me and I doubt it will affect anybody other than about 800,000 federal workers who are either furloughed or doing their jobs without pay.
I think the use of a partial government shutdown as a bargaining chip is stupid. It's meaningless and most Americans realize it. Both sides are grandstanding for media attention and voter support and playing politics with the lives of a relatively small number of government employees and it makes all involved look petty and ineffectual.
Eh...wot?

Simple question. Has it affected you? The longer it goes on the more people will realize that maybe it affects some but the govt. could easily be downsized. The answer for me is: No, not at all. That's because those deemed "essential" are still being forced to serve you without knowing when they'll get paid. Most are on a two week pay rotation, and haven't missed the first check yet. When those forced to serve, have to start bailing out because they need to feed their families and pay their bills, you will start to be affected. Don't get me wrong there are positions that could be cut and let go... But the "non-essential" are the grease between the wheels. Training departments, trainees to replace retirees, planning/development, quality control... just to name a few are not "essential" to immediate safety.

Why not lay them off as mentioned earlier and then they could have unemployment? That's what businesses have to do - why not go by the same rules?
Who's leaving all the trash in the national parks and pooping outside the outhouses? I've been in National Parks in the winter. I never see anyone?

No
I guess I question why there are non-essential staff. How are there jobs being performed at most times that suddenly aren’t needed?
Any place I ever worked everyone there was necessary. Do you feel, week to week, when research (name the subject that the fed gov is involved in) doesn't get done? How would YOU know if a new drug doesn't start clinical trials or a new map of important mineral deposit used in emerging technology isn't released? Etc. etc. etc. There are a substantial number of "non-essential" fed jobs that really don't translate well to the private sector, at least in the short term. Buy you may feel the impact in a cumulative way over time or at least there has been a societal desire to have such services done and knowledge created This isn't all about emptying trash cans in National Parks but whatever floats your boat...

Lol
One of the last few I haven't directly been part of and it's still getting me. Any client that's says they can't pay bill due to it is served for free!
Your welcome swamp! Won't be as tuff as going without pay. But I am so sick and tired of these Marxist traitors screwing this country up I wouldn't care if it was!
Hold the line Trump!

They can find other jobs if they needed to. If I was told I had to work without pay I would find a new job.

For those worried about making bills or a mortgage , check with your bank or credit union , im hearing that most will loan or defer payments with no penalties.
No government worker has ever worked without pay , ever ..........just delayed payroll , and the banks know this

Opened up my schedule a little bit with DOJ not able to attend meetings.
Give it long enough and you'll see how the lack of government will erode the quality of this country. The erosion of quality is because of government , not the lack of government

Could be very interesting if this thing drags through February and USDA can't reload food stamps for March. It doesn't seem possible for it to go on that long but I also thought they would make a deal this week after some more political posturing so who really knows. We'll be in uncharted territory if it goes on after January 24. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/u...ebruary-if-shutdown-continues-2019-01-08
