I would say it is . I have found weather underground pretty accurate the monitoring station by my cabin is always right on .

Here in the eastern interior we have had 6 days now in the -50's, with a low of -58.
So I imagine that is pretty accurate.

This Global Warming is tearing me up.....

I don’t know about global warming but you’ve got to agree that this cold weather actually feels like winter compared to those sweater weather December days we had. My grandpa said it used to be colder than this for a couple months straight back in the day. It’s been awhile for me even in my short 35years that I’ve heard trees splitting in the cold. I heard a few last weekend while I was setting Marten traps around a new lake.

Bitter cold here today also. Its 27* now with only a high of 37* today

Wont see a high of 40* till Monday

It's -56 here at my place friday morning @ 0530.

We have finally warmed up nicely. We had a week of -45/-50 .

How’s your Marten catch when it’s gets cold like that? Marten seem to disappear when it gets cold here

I believe when the deep cold comes they hunker down in deep snow where food sources are. JMO

Same here. When it gets this cold they go under the snow

Kind of what I figured. I noticed if they have a big food source like a bait pile you’ll see holes around. I guess they just run out grab a bite and jump back under the snow. Then one day when it warms up is a good day on the trapline.

So I guess what I’m saying is I don’t expect a whole lot of Marten this weekend. I think my best option from here on is to set lake edges. Especially the lakes where you expect to see moose where there’s a lot of grass under the snow.

I have always found the margins of swamps to be pretty active. As the swamps freeze the overflow at the edges forces voles to move. If I know that.........the marten do too

Same on my trapline. Here at home its different though, as it's much drier. Right now we dont have enough snow to cover a martens tail let alone enough for them to hunt under. That may be the reason there are not many marten in the southern lakes area. I've always wondered about that as the best marten country in Yukon seems to be the areas where it gets more snow.

We had -62 earlier this week. Pretty much each day has been -40 or less. Luckily the wind has been 5 mph or less...

January 27, 1989 the official low downtown at the weather service office was -75.

Out here there is a NOAA sub-station. That thermometer recorded -82

Good morning fellers. It warmed up a little during the night here. Light snow but the wind sure has some bite. Just ran outside to start my skidoo and I think I’ll be dressing right up to load my sled. Coldest I’ve ever been to traps was -67 with the wind chill. Still the only time I’ve picked up two wolverine in one trip.

The T-shirt trappers outside ( in the lower 48) for southern guys, just don't believe anyone even goes outside in these temps. No open water beaver trappers here. (Well most).

Kinda poor timing for this but I recently got home after 3 months at camp. Catching up on reading.Was a pretty good cold snap and bottomed out Jan 12. Not long after had 2 days of rain. Getting old- 3 months alone is too long anymore.

The logs in my old house start popping at about -30 ,Gosh yours must sound like gun fire !
