Hi, Here is a link to a website I made years ago. It's about a hermit who lived in the woods, no water, no electric. Sometimes he would sleep between cows. I think this is pretty rare. Does anyone else know of a hermit like this, living or who lived in the woods? His "house" was a burn down building that he held the sheeting on with twine. WEBSITE about HERMIT

We used to have one down here "The Cataloochee Wild Man". He died a few years ago. He just roamed the woods around the Great Smokies near Cataloochee. When I was young, we were driving the gravel road into Cataloochee. Came around a curve and there he was. You could tell he was contemplating running, but didn't. Odd fellow for sure. It would have been interesting to know things he found or saw in the woods.

I was friends with a hermit named Jerry, who lived on the shore of Lake Loramee. He was not as isolated as those hermits. He had no vehicle, no phone and would not go to town. He lived in a house he built himself and had a bunch of weird barns he built too. Jerry used wood he salvaged. The barns were really short and I bashed my head in them more than a few times. He built the barns when he used to farm foxes. He fished, mushroom hunted, hunted, gardened, trapped and raised pigeons. One day he was mowing his grass, on a riding mower, had a heart attack and just fell over dead.

Ornary old man (I say that as a compliment) live down the way in a shanty at best. He'd been arrested a few times for poaching but was probably more ethical than 90% of regular hunters. He got older and marries this tires out old peg legged bar maid. Did plenty of trapping too but would never talk about it. Spoke with a very heavy accent that would make you think he was foreign born but said he was born in the area about WWI.
He wasn't a hermit like those above (really cool stories btw) but just wanted to be left alone.
Edit: his placed burnt down one year and he got put in some sort of home. His site is now home to someone's bucket list "cabin".

In the early 60s there was a fellow known in central W.Va. as "The Sang Man ".He was supposed to wander far and wide digging ginseng .Always walking and with a packsack on the back roads.

You don't want to wash off the protective crust. That would let in mosquitoes, and germs.
