Yes a lot like a sheep’s skin coat but mine anyways is knee length and split up the back to make it easier to mount a saddle, when I was a kid I remember going to one of those old west museums and they had one that was fur out and would most likly come down to almost the ankle and it was not split for a saddle

They sold them off in the 1980 from the Winnipeg Police department, some were rags and some were upper ranks, so little worn.

I had my granddads old sheepskin coat when I was a kid . It had the big stand up collar and was canvas on the outside . I don’t remember it being heavy unless you tried to take it swimming in the creek ( thanksgiving day early 80’s ) then it got heavy quick ! Can they thin leather enough with today’s methods to make a buff robe coat that is lighter to wear ? I realize you can only take so much before the hair starts to fall out but I would think 140 years or so later their has to be a way to make them lighter !?

From doing some reading, arsenic, formaldehyde and chromium were used in old tanning methods. Some developing countries are still using it AND,are dumping the waste in their waterways, which is causing horrific pollution.

Arsenic is also absorbed through the skin as wellas the lungs and digestive tract.
