Just wanting to get some ideas, the place where i am hunting has some pretty big fields. I'm wanting to set up an AR, what do you think would be the best caliber?

A hot .22 caliber with GOOD bullets.

243 with a 55gr bullet 350 yard frozen rope.

222/223

22-250 is the best hands down. Fur friendly, crazy fast and pretty flat compared to other rds. I like the hornady vmax. In a AR platform you're looking at a custom build in that caliber. For the money the 5.56/223 is probably the cheapest option. Sdrifles.com does make a ar-10 in the 22-250

I have two 22-250's that I'll probably never shoot a dog with any more after I got a 204, best new caliber I've ever used on a coyote. I have a host of other coyote calibers as well, I'll be giving them to the family when I pass, but that 204 will be about wore out by then !!

Everyone has a best, it's like a trap which is better, well the caught paw don't know any different, neither does a shot dog,
but the user does.

I have used a 25/06 for as long as I can remember 85 grn. Nosler now earlier it was a 75 grn. sierra .Now I have a Browning Hells Canyon 243 haven't used it much yet but sure fells promising. Never had to do much sewing but then I don't shoot coyotes at 50-75 or even 100 yards if I can help it .

I'm a fan of the .223 in an AR platform or a 22-250 in a bolt. I prefer a hollow point over the frangibles. Have had far too many explosive results with the v-max out of my guns and that all stopped with the hp. Not afraid of the shoulder with the hp.

For you .204 guys, what load are you using? A hunting buddy always gives me his coyotes and his .204 with the vmax is putting baseball size exits in 4 out of the last 6 coyotes. He's looking to reload something different. Great caliber as well
