I can't stop using my 204, all calibers will do damage, but I've yet to see the same from my 204 as I had with my 22-250's, shoot solids and them dogs just flip over, yea sometimes ya get a sew job, but nothing near what them larger 22's do. I was even shooting solids in them before I won my 204, as the frangibles were just to explosive.
I also will pick my shot when ever possible, you do most of the time have that when calling here.
I can't imagine going back to my 22-250's !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

The bullets used in any small caliber are what's important. Coyotes can take a lot to kill with the wrong bullet. Vmax and such bullets are made for VARMINTS, coyotes ain't varmints! A .204 shooting 35 Berger bullets is the cat's ...

I don't have that many pretzel's Lol. Yeah, that topic can go many pages. A .204 is a 300 yard round. No need for a high magnification scope. A 3 x9 will do fine. For your budget, a tried n true Leupold VX2. Many decent scopes can be had for under 500.00

Has anyone used the Vortex Viper? Yep, very good scope.

I have two 3-9 VX2's, had them for years, and have had no trouble with either.

I have two 22-250's that I'll probably never shoot a dog with any more after I got a 204, best new caliber I've ever used on a coyote. I have a host of other coyote calibers as well, I'll be giving them to the family when I pass, but that 204 will be about wore out by then !!
Everyone has a best, it's like a trap which is better, well the caught paw don't know any different, neither does a shot dog, but the user does. .204 Ruger for sure. Love the .17 but ammo can be hard to find.
