While I'm not a 100% happy with the government no matter who's in control it's not like any changes are kept secret during the year and the comments about tax breaks for the rich being a privilege, well if you don't give them incentive to stay in the US or your state you can kiss your job goodbye! While my taxes are down $200 from last year mostly anyone can agree we are slaves to this government and it's far from what the founding fathers wanted and created!

Since as long as I've been paying taxes, so at least 50 years.

Being well into her 60's and having been married to me for many decades, I rather doubt either one would apply to her.

Tax laws are always changing to the benefit of some people and to the detriment to others. Pretty sure that is what the tax code is meant to do. If the goal was to raise revenue, it would be simplified.

For example: As self employed one can deduct as a business expense health insurance that you buy for yourself and family. However, one cannot expense actual medical costs as a business cost. Why?

Under the previous law, you could deduct state and local taxes from your federal taxes. Which is hitting some of the higher income-taxed states pretty hard.

Warnings were out back when this was being passed. Yet nobody paid attention...again.

Dont worry your new socialist rep will take your property and divide it among those unwilling to work. You must be one of those keeping the poor unfortunate souls with less beaten down while you live all high and mighty.

Call me stupid, but when did other people become entitled to the fruits of my labor? Some have called it slavery and revolted. I guess we are not that bright.

Tell me what the difference is between slavery... of the old days,, vs

If you don't vol·un·tar·i·ly have over a percentage of the fruits of your labor, you get jailed, and probably raped in jail. I don't even think the slave owners of old abused disobedient slaves that much.

And where does our money stolen from us go? To pay the wages of gov workers, who hardly work, and those who don't work at all.

Excuse me if I insult anyone, but I think we are playing a fools game.

Some people on assistance get $200 a day free rehab in their home. $200 a day house cleaning service. Free transportation to and from Methadone clinics. $ to stay in school. $ to go to the dr to buy drugs so they can resell them. I've talked to upper income gov workers who say they would probably be better off on welfare.

I've known women on welfare who get their "mustache" hairs removed for free. They get free furnaces, hot water tanks, and insulation in their homes!

If I came up and took $ out of your pocket you would probably hit me.

But it seems we are so stupid, if we put a couple feigns in between the theft, call it "taxes", well... we accept that.

I'm sorry, but my dog is smarter than most of us, he fights for his bone, we........ roll over and just let anyone else have our "fruits"

Comments anyone?

For example: As self employed one can deduct as a business expense health insurance that you buy for yourself and family. However, one cannot expense actual medical costs as a business cost. Why?

If self employed you can not deduct the full cost of health insurance. You can get a credit that shows up on your 1040 but not what your premiums cost. If you are self employed you can hire your wife as an employee and put the health insurance in her name and then you can deduct the health care cost as a business expense. You could always put medical expenses on the Schedule A subject to AGI if you itemized deductions. Not much of that anymore for most.
As to taxes being deductions. State income taxes paid and real estate taxes paid have been deductions for federal taxes for decades. Now those are capped.
I was talking to my friend who is a enrolled agent and is selling his business. He works with up to 200 clients. The guy buying his firm is tickled pink as he will be able to charge about 10-20% more for the average filer just to cover the extra forms etc. My friend is glad too as this means his transaction or selling is much more likely to be successful for the new owner.

I paid in $5000 less over the year and got a return that was almost 4K higher than last year I think we ended up with $8400 back. My income didn’t change other than an increase by $2500. Probably the first year I felt the belt loosen on my taxes rather than tighten. I let the professionals figure it out. My $150 is well spent every year.

Me and the Wife did our taxes today. I was a little concerned before we started due to the uncertainty of the tax changes this year. It took us about an hour but we were pleasantly surprised. We overpaid enough that the Gov. will be sending us enough money back for me to pay our property tax. I don't call it a refund but more of a Tax Re-allocation. I was pleased to see that they arent keeping the 20k that me and the wife paid in fed taxes through out the year!

If your properties generate income, then the real estate taxes will be deductible.
