I have never used ground anchors like the wolf fang style and have always used a rebar stake with a washer welded on top. What do you all like and why. I clip a pair of visegrips on my rebar stakes and give them a twist and pull them out. Seems like the ground anchors would be tough to remove. Am I missing something or just an idiot?

They are indeed hard to remove.....specially in frozen ground. The word "disposable" is used with some anchors. They do hold well though!
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

So I guess they cut the cable off at the ground and move on. I could see that they would be a lot lighter and easier to carry than 24"x 1/2" rebar stakes. I watched a couple DVD's trying to brush up and get some new idea's and the ground anchors were all they used so that was why I asked the question.

Used to use cross-staked rebar. Went to cable, then chain Superstakes. Used those for 20 years. Dug them up then built a HD puller. That was a job over the years to pull them. Absolutely dreaded pull day when sometimes I had well over a hundred traps out . A couple years ago I sold all the Superstakes and began making and using 2" pogos with 15" of 3/32" cable. On pull day I cut and leave the pogo. Use quick links and unscrew and put a new pogo on and reset. I can make the pogo for 15 cents each...so I lose 15 bucks on every 100 sets. Much better on my back and way faster. I dont dread pull day anymore...but I do have to spend a little time making the pogos over the summer.

Went to Wolf Fangs and never looked back and yes I cut and run to save my back as pulling rerod kills my back that makes pulling quick and easy also so it just works for me.

I use Wolffangs (make my own) and do pull them with a puller, also made by me. They pull pretty good, except when the ground is really froze solid. If I can't get them out with the puller, I unclip the quick link and move on. Like I said, I try to pull them to reuse, but don't cry if I have to leave them behind.

Will someone post their “puller” this South Georgia clay will bend about anything I’ve tried. The wench on the front of the 4-wheeler will have the back tires off the ground. I generally leave or dig. Use cheap pogos and cut em. There ain't a puller made that is easy on a 54 year old back , shoulders, wrists, and elbows Cant use drags over here in bear country...never see that trap again...

I only use Wolf Fangs. At one time I used Super Stakes, and they work great, but I'd rather use an earth anchor that I can "knock dirt off of", instead of "digging dirt out of". This makes a huge difference when the temps drop and the dirt becomes frozen inside the Super Stake...assuming you're going to keep trapping and want to reuse them. At that point, you have to bring them inside the shed (or truck), let them warm up, sit on chair, and waste time digging dirt out of them. Even if dirt freezes to a Wolf Fang, you smack the frozen dirt with a hammer, knock it off, and keep rollin'. You can pull the Wolf Fang as long as the ground is not frozen, and you can beat them through the frost, but once the ground freezes, you cannot pull them and they do become "disposable".
