I butchered a hog this weekend and decided I would save it's hide to possibly tan for a yet to be determined purpose. Its enormous, about 7 feet by 5 feet. I have it fleshed and tacked out on a sheet of plywood. Should I salt him too, or just let it dry like I would any other fur bearer?

Salt dry it on the stretch and you can dry scrape the thicker parts of the skin in prep for tanning.Similar to frost scraping, but be careful not to overscrape. When it starts to get thin it can rip.

When you say dry scrape, are talking about thinning out the hide to make it softer when it's done? And do I need to do that if I'm sending it out someplace to have it tanned?

No,thinning the hide before tanning will make the leather uniform.I thought you were tanning it yourself. If you are shipping to a reputable leather tanner they will shave down the thick spots,or split it for you if you request.
You can air or salt dry if shipping to a tanner.
