That is the size that I went with. I brought the loft out about half way and left a 4' over hang on the front to store stuff in and to hang deer under. The ceiling in the open part is 11' or 13', can't remember.

Big as you can afford is good advice. I'm building a new one this spring too. 30'x40' with ten foot sidewalls and and upstairs. Can't wait! I'll also use this for my wood working shop as well. You'll never look back and think, "I should have made it smaller"!
Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine!

You'll never look back and think, "I should have made it smaller"! A few years ago I put up a 30' x 30' garage with 10' sidewalls. A buddy stopped by to check it out one night while I was pondering how to set things up. When I asked him what he would do his reply was " Well first of all I would knock out that back wall and add on another 30 feet." He was right.....

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2019/03/full-27992-1940-img_1192_1.jpg) Built a room within my 36X54 pole building for skinning and drying. Have a couple chest freezers and all my traps and supplies in the main part of building. Made it a man cave with a few select furs and other outdoor related items. Chris

I would make the ceiling height at least 12 ft in part of the shed to accommodate a skinning machine. If you don't have one now, you should really try one. You will never regret it. Agreed! I boxed in a 3'x4' area to a height of 13'. Mounted a 1/2 ton Harbor Freight winch and mounted a skinning vice grip holder made by ADC to the cement floor. Works great on most furbearers and for skinning deer. Chris

I think you have to be very honest with yourself on where your taking your trapping. How much fur will you honestly process in the future and what do you need for that? Fridge, freezer, cutting area/ counter, drying area etc. like the guys here note. Heat source affordability, and so on. If you just want a big new shed and use part of it that's great too. If you can run in a water source super. Personally I would seperate my drying area from the rest within the space. Also note a good extended exterior section somewhere and lockable as well is a great place for all your field goods such as traps, cable, stakes etc. why have that take up heated space? Back up to it load and unload steel and go. In disclosure my thoughts are from a guy who only traps cats and kills bears.

Traps should be stored in other places because a working fur shed just stinks just like a fur buyers place does! LOL My skinning machine is in the steel building next to the fur shed (taller) and trap storage is also but a 3rd shed to just to store supplies would be ideal. Heat is cheap just needed to add a 2nd pump on the boiler to move the heated water to the wall radiators. Keeping in neat during the season is tough with way too much going on at that time.
