April and November are about the worst in these parts, followed by May and October. Hungry and need to feed in the spring and stocking up for winter in the fall. April is the worst.

Last year PA had almost triple the confirmed cases of Lyme than the next closest state. You get bit and your odds are high.

You got to pay attention during the late fall and early winter too. I don't know how many I've picked off of me after skinning coyotes! I put some coyotes up today that were caught the first seven days of Dec, and one had a tick in his ear yet, course it was dead after being in the freezer that long.

I keep a bottle of doxycycline handy. One 200mg tablet within 24hrs of being bit and your supposedly good. Unfortunately the medical field doesnt have a very good handle on the disease. Got relatives and friends with the Lymes and it's baaad news for some, manageable for others.

I know places where if we haven't had snow or freezing rain, you will have them on you down to zero degrees.
I have been bite hundreds of times, had there legs under my skin as well. I cut them off, one pass with a razor blade does the trick. Blood takes out any poison.
And they will survive the freezer, if they have not consumed blood recently.

I guess we are lucky here, they mainly are bad in the spring might get one or two in the fall but not bad.

sounds like here Flipper,and i hadn't felt one since last night till i read the responses on this post-now i'm scratchin like a old hound dog with fleas.

We don't have them real bad here but spring till about June is the time we have to be prepared. This year I'm going to try to make a repellent that is save to use. I have the ingredients just haven't mixed it up yet. I hate them SOB.

soak your outer cloths in Permethrin and line dry , have had a lot less since doing that.

You've had Lyme's Disease before? I'll take the PI anytime over Lyme's.

Most people don't realize that ticks are not born with Lyme's in there system. They get it from small rodents that carry it, then pass it to their next host.
I believe that when the wild k-9 population takes a big hit from rabies or distemper the rodent population explodes and Lyme's case go up accordingly. A few studies have been done on the subject, but most don't address the true problem, the rodents.
