At one time I think C-rations came with a small pack of cigarettes too. Wouldn't that go over good now!
And now tender children want $15/hr to box up French fries. That's $2400 per month.

When my Uncle (mothers brother) came back from there he gave me a bag of Cigarettes, Chicklets, and TP. I was in heaven with all that loot. Neither of my parents smoked but they didn't object. He also bought me a plastic Army toy kit, Helmet, belt with pistol and canteen. I was the coolest kid I thought crawling around in the hay field ditches with that gear and a cig (unlit) hanging out of my mouth. Too young to understand the war but old enough to idolize my Uncle forever.

We still don't pay American soldiers as much as they deserve. My friend Bobby was finishing up his tour with the Marines in the nineties and had the choice of getting out early, because he had unused leave, or staying in and getting $15.76 a day, until his time was up. Bobby chose to get out early.
