Since we are comparing pit bulls to firearms now, just curious...how many people lost their life due to someone with a firearm and why? Calvin, these dogs that are making the news aren't apbt's. The majority are crossed dogs with terrible breeders who sale them as apbt's to anyone with a pulse. Care to tell us the other breeds that are mixed with an apbt bloodline that have mauled, bit, or killed? Or an actual apbt that was brought up as a pet instead of a working /fighting dog? These dogs aren't for weak/soft individuals they need time, exposure to other animals/people, discipline and control and if people can't provide that for the dog then they shouldn't own one or might want to pick a different breed. It's like the individual who is out looking for a cc piece and says they don't want something with a lot of kick, just want something they can handle. Think they are looking at a 454 casull or 500 s&w magnum?

It’s bad no matter what but was something else wrong with the pony? Wouldn’t it be just like castrating a steer and could have at least saved the pony.

Tough deal no matter what type dog did it. Glad the guy is paying money for it and put the trespassing dogs down.

Can’t stand a trespassing animal, nothing but trouble.

Pits are no worse than any other dog. You know why you're all scared of them? When one of them does something it's all over the news. People WANT you to be scared of them. I think Rottweiler and Dobermans are way more unstable than pits. Anyone who thinks all pits are bad is a sheep who believes what the media says. My pit is the most gentle dog I know. And we've had him since he was a puppy and he's ten now.

Trapping is easy you say? You try getting your target animal to step in a 3 inch area of its whole territory.

They won’t listen to you , their minds are made up.

I agree with you, I had one also, she was thirteen when she was put down with bladder cancer. She went to the children’s hospital and nursing homes and visited people. She was a good dog. It really is the news coverage and the dirtbag people who own them for the wrong reasons who give them a bad name, They thrive when they have a job to do and are trained to do it, like someone else mentioned.

The worst damage I saw was a Dalmatian that tore a kids face off. I say we ban all labs because of it....

I’m somewhat surprised the German shepherd is that high a specially over the mastiff, dad had two huskys after they got into the sheep one tried to take him crushed its windpipe and the other one he shot off a snow bank with the 300 weatherby.

They AREN'T like any other dog.

I don't think all pits or whatever are bad . I just know first hand what they're capable of and what happens when that "switch" gets thrown. And I know most people don't give them the outlet they need .

Considering the Lab is one of the most popular breeds in the country, nine fatalities are ,statistically , barely a drop in the bucket.

Thinking about it the reason that the mastiff isn’t higher is because they are considered more guard dogs, looking at one for sheep, and maybe they aren’t put in situations where they are treated as pets so people know what they are, where as the the top 5 in both diagrams are considered by most as pets.

There may some good pitbulls out there. And I know that some of them that have attacked people were family pets so they were not trained to attack. It is just the breed that should not be around small kids at least minimum. When was the last time a yellow lab went on a rampage or a beagle ?

Don’t let that face fool ya for one second. Axel has a job and he’s very , very good at his job . But he’s capable of extremely rough work. And he gets worked a lot . As great as he is about working through the chaos of bay dogs and excited hunters so he can grab a very angry pig to hold for us, I won’t be asking him to baby sit . Incidentally, he also doesn’t get paraded around as a hood rat status symbol.
