Small change, ours wanted 20 more cents.

Ours is trying for a .45 cent raise

Either way we look at the price of fuel, the Local state governments will figure a way to get more money!

Why haven't the states setup a charge for the "ELECTRIC" vehicles to pay a ROAD TAX?

Here in Michigan the woman governor wanted to raise our gas tax $.45 this year. I not aware of where that's gone.

Be careful what you wish for regarding getting the electric and the hybrid autos to pay. It is not difficult to put in mileage recorders in cars and with GPS as accurate as it is now one could be taxed by mileage instead of fuel type. Maybe not such a bad idea if more battery type autos hit the road but it will be a huge change for all involved.
I am in favor of the 9 cent raise here in WI if we can get more infrastructure and road repair etc. from that increase. Our roads can use a lot of repair.

Well, the Democrats today just approved doubling the gas tax in Illinois because they can't control the state budget. That should raise the price on a gallon by .19 cents, it's anywhere from 2.71 to 2.89 NOW near where I am, so it will be $2.90 to $3.00 when they change to sign. Things looked good 15 years ago when I moved here from NY state for a job change. There aren't any states run by Democrats that are worth a poop.

Before jumping on board with any gas tax increase because road repair is needed it is fair to ask how much the current gas tax is and where that money is going. You may be surprised to find out that a large portion of the current gas tax is getting siphoned off (pun intended) to fund all kinds of alternative transportation such as bike trails, metro bus lines and light rail, all pet programs that don't support themselves. If in fact all current gas tax is going to road and bridge infrastructure as intended then consider raising the tax if needed.

I am actually cool with a local transit service, just wish the bus had a hitch on the back for towing trailers.

Walleye is correct, in Mn. around 60% of gas tax goes to roads the rest to other transit modes. Most of that is in the cities, no wonder they need more money.

I'd be cool with local transit as well if those who use it funded it without it being subsidized by highway maintenance funds.

We have a local annual car tax to fund our transit system.

Why not a transit tax to fund the transit system?
