Just ask Mr. Dobbins about the dependability and longevity of a Tacoma.
I've never owned a Nissan, but my brother-in-law does. He has a Titan and it is JUNK! Problem after problem.
My 2005 Tacoma with 212,000+ miles, runs like brand new.

I have an 2003 Tacoma, V6, 5 speed manual, 4x4, extended cab with tow package. Bought it new, great truck on or off the road. Only have 144K miles. Only do routine service, have had to fix nothing. Use synthetic oil and grease, installed a K&N air filter. Get about 24-25 mpg highway running 65 mph with tail gate down.
My biggest complaint is I get sick of people approaching me wanting to buy it ! I gave $20,400 for it new and I know it would bring a pretty good price now. But I like it better than the new ones.
I had an 1981 Datson by Nisson with a 4 cyl 4 speed 4x4. Great little truck that would go anywhere. Body wasn't the best but I got my monies worth out of it. Motor finally got weak at about 350k miles. I built a flat bed when the original bed about fell off. My hunting partner named it Erv, which stood for "elk recovery vehicle". I scared myself a few times at the places Erv (with tire chains) and I retrieved elk and deer here in the Black Hills.
I have no experience with the newer Nissons.

I think some of the older Nissan s pickup trucks are ok. The new rigs have certainly gone down hill by the sound of things.

I've got a 2008 Tacoma with 255,000 miles on it and it's a tank. Wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country at the drop of a hat. My wife has a Frontier and other than the turning radius I can't complain about it. Both have been good trucks with no pampering but if I had to buy another one today I'd go with another Toyota.
