There are about 50 kinds of F. Dick and Forcshner rod type knife sharpeners. How exactly is a guy supposed to know what one is good? I’m thinking of ordering a F. Dick and I don’t have any idea. I’m gonna touch my knife up in a work sharp first then keep it sharp on the rod if that helps

I'm no expert on the subject but I'm pretty sure you want a smooth rod for what you're describing. Can't really help you with the brand I just have some random stuff with no name on it that I can see.

Will I bought an F Dick smooth steel from Horn on here. Game Changer for me best steel I have ever used

^^^^^ what TrapperCarl said get a F. Dick from Horn if you like mention to him that you want one like what I use you'll be happy I'm not sure of the model number for it but they have a orange handle and the steel is as smooth as wet glass.
