Anyone know what kinda laws there are on damages from employee at work ? Last nite at my part time clean job, I cleaning toilet in men's room, 1 of 2 in room, only ones in bldg, my pants with big wad roll up paper towling in pocket caught on toilet seat, a big old porcelain one for toilets on bldgs, an flung it down hard when caught an cracked it an a big section of toilet seat came out, I told my superviser about it an text pic of it to him, it was in bldg that the cleaning service was contract at an everyone gone. I always usally lock up bldg an gate, they well be there tommorow nite when I first get there. This is first incident in 4 years, my superviser say to not worry about it, my question is, can they legally take this out employee check? While not expensive if buy an easy to put in,the big porcelain one, a lil more yes, but they could say it cost $150 to have plumber come out with service call an install, can employers legally do that, ? I hope not, last thing i need

Had close calls more once but first incident, could been worse, had paper punch machine chord, that was in wheels of paper shredder, an punch machine on top shredder, an move an knock it on mat, lucky no damage, cover came off, expensive glass bussiness c- ph plug in all over an try clean, mop around, desktops, computers all over, chords from chargers for expensive power packs for new shop tools on floor plug into outlets an mop or sweep around, lucky the office ppl are almost gone when start, this job is not something I be into when everyone in office, not a office person myself

Yep..All sounds like you never had the proper training to perform the tasks at hand with all the near misses you have had..Did you say anything to the temp agency after you showed them pics of all the damage you caused?..Then there's the deal if you have had training and you did all this damage to the commode and office equipment I could see the company making you pay for damages..if they do maybe you could make a 50/50 deal..

You were smart to let them know in advance Dave.

He said don't worry about. So don't.

It will depend on your states laws, but I doubt it. I think the worst they can do is fire you.

Yep..I don't know about state law..But I do know that company's have their own policy's about company property and how the expectations of how you are to conduct yourself..Usually this information will occur in your "New Hire Orientation" handbook..At the end of the orientation you may be asked to sign a paper that you understand all the company's regulations and policy's..If you still have the handbook go ahead and look through it again..hopefully you didn't sign it

Yep..Coonman220..I have a serious question to ask of you..Apparently your part time job is custodial maintenance of public/private buildings..What kind of personal protective equipment has the company furnished for you?..Also known as PPE..Has the company provided you with Hepatitis shots??..When your dealing with and around humans and their waste the possibility of contracting a hepatitis virus is high..You should already have the shot's and I hope you do..this comment is not a joke..

It was an accident. I wouldn't worry about it. If I cut an employee's pay for everything they break sometimes they wouldnt take game much money. If it was an ongoing problem or they broke something on purpose it would be a different story.

I wouldn’t worry about it. I know I’m my building, if the cleaning crew broke the toilet by accident, it wouldn’t be a big deal. I have a budget for things breaking and I would just get it fixed, after I made sure the two guys didn’t get hurt.

They have monthly safety talk papers I get an got sign an return occasionally in mail as company or ins requirements, I rarely look at them an pitch in waste basket. I wear surgery gloves around toilets or skinning gloves but reuse them for weeks, there expensive, it dont pay to bad an not hard job, air condition in summer, I seen used syringe in waste basket more once. Not sure why
