The answer to how is money generated by the WDNR is quite simple. Look at the millions and millions of dollars spent in a growing and bloated WDNR staff. Added so many positions, etc. it is insane. Now look at Congressman Kind Dumbocrat, from WI getting 15 million more from the feds. And it is all a waste of money. The great scare tactic that benefits the WDNR, auto insurance industry, nurseries, etc. Ag tags galore but the land is shut down to hunters not in the family. I just don't buy any of the B.S.

Just the opposite happens here in Michigan, # 1 deer population control is done by hunters. Michigan banned baiting, a important tool for weekend hunters to harvest some venison. Then the testing process is cumbersome, nobody will invest in processing and storage only to toss positive meat in a landfill. You get a free tag replacement but vacation is over. Lots of the hunting public consider the whitetail deer unfit to eat now. Seems weird QDMA is using this to push antler restrictions in spite of science. A bright spot is more kids going small game hunting, along with older hunters. More trapping time also.

There has been ONE case of CWD found in the central CWD zone in Minnesota that was not inside a deer farm and that case was a deer that was just outside the deer farm. So they banned recreational wildlife feeding and let people shoot unlimited does for tags that costs $2.50 each. What good will eradication of does do? Total nonsense.

CWD is caused by a prion found in the environment. Once that prion is consumed it will restructure the prions within the host. That host spreads those prions around. No different then humans spreading the flue virus. That prion came from the environment and is spread back to the environment. Spread back to the soils of the fields where your groceries are grown. That prion is absorbed by the plants that are grown in those soils. Yes it is in all the farm fields where cwd positive deer have been found. All that produce and all the other grazing animals in that field have those prions within or on them. So you have been consuming and will continue consuming those same prions as long as there is product for human consumption produced from those fields. So if the prion was to cross to humans it probably would have already. Or maybe it is just a matter of time. You cannot contain the prion just by killing the deer. Those prions are on the soils, plant matter and in the animals so wherever that produce or product is distributed so will be the prion.

So what I am saying is killing deer to stop the spread of cwd is a band-aid approach. Stopping the movement of anything off of the lands containing the prion is the only way to stop the spread. Lets just hope the deer species can survive.

Just a small sardonic smile when the armchair scientists on here get rolling.
When you go from seeing forty to sixty deer a day to seeing two or three. When you see deer at ten yards standing looking straight at you without seeing you and drool hanging from their mouth and can’t walk without staggering, THEN TELL ME ITS A HOAX AND NO BIG DEAL. Or maybe the dnr started it to generate revenue HUH? It has destroyed the Platte River herd which is near ground zero.
Mad cow, scabies, CWD, Creutzfeld-Jakob, are all spongiform encephalopathy diseases with the latter being the human version. They are all very similar and caused by prions, incomplete proteins in the central nervous system and brain. Cross species transmission? Don’t know, and neither do the real biologists. I have my elk tested, don’t hunt deer anymore, so much for revenue HA!

There seems to be a lot of disagreement in scientific circles about CWD, I have tried to come to an understanding of it but there is so much conflicting information coming from sources that know more than I do that I am just left confused by the whole thing.

Example, it crossed over into monkeys, and then it didnt, then it did but the research was not conducted right. It was caused by bacteria and a cure is coming, then it wasnt and there is no cure. How does anyone without scientific knowledge pretend to know much of anything about CWD?

They ignore the facts.

Seems to be the norm these days, eh?

We best hope that the Cervids are the only ones susceptible to the prions from CWD. If these are soil born and can be transferred into plants then we could have some significant bovine and other species issues down the road.
If indeed soil borne or in the soil that would mean to me based on cases nationwide that 100s of millions of acres may well harbor the prions. To save the deer then we may need to hunt to minimize the older populations of either sex. That would change the dynamic of the "hunt" considerably. I can see mature rutting bucks moving over larger areas in the fall and then the spring dispersion when the does kick the yearlings out so they can have their fawns. Some of those deer move well into the teens for miles. The deer do so to minimize in breeding naturally but it can be a way to transport diseases as well.

I never said they introduced it im just saying they only look for it where they want to find it and often don't investigate possible cases if they are not in areas that support their agenda

WI DNR and UW-Madison released CWD into our herds.
Herds are 20% what they used to be.

Whatever their endgame, they are achieving it.

The DNR didn't released infected deer.

It was First found in captive, Game farm deer. And some escaped.
