Hi all. Going over some traps to list I was cleaning up an Oneida community no.91 s.newhouse & noticed the spring is stamped topside. All I can really make out is N.Y.
Never noticed one of these stamped before, were some or is this most likely a previous owners marking? Thanks for any info!

The Oneida Community stamped most all Newhouse springs, it is kind of an address, they used numerous different stamps. When Animal Trap Company bought out O.C. in 1925, they stopped stamping the springs. A.T.C. did continue to use the Oneida Community name on their traps for several years, there for there are Newhouse traps with an O.C. pan but no spring stamps. Also, a lot of spring stamps were light stamps or just got rusted away and are not legible.

I'm not a Newhouse expert but shouldn't the 91's have double jaws? Or maybe it's just not visible in the pictures.

I think you are correct about the jaws. Given the angle of the trap in the photo, the double jaw would definitely be visible, IF it were there

The # 91 is a double jaw #1 size trap. Oneida Community occasionally used a different pan as a substitution, generally but not always, they would cross out the extra number or add a number. This trap could also be a trapper modification were the jaws or pan were changed.
