Goeny doesn’t buy beaver...he steals them! Groeny averages past 2 years on these green, frozen southern beavers have compared to auction averages of beaver from further north. $8 per pelt for 2 year olds and older. Counts them and pitches them into the truck. No worries about bites, knife cuts, color, staining, heaviness, etc. Thank goodness for the hatter market. Yearling/kit beaver $3 per pelt. No fleshing, no boarding, no commissions. I've threw away a lot of $8s over the years....but I'll skin em for $8 and a local sale. Groeny comes within 20 miles of my home in March. Maybe not the Great Lakes region overall but I've read about $10 to $12 averages for finished beaver from most areas sold at the auctions past few years. Too much work...too little pay.

I bet the prices of real Fur Coats have NOT gone down ! Right, and value is added at each step up the ladder after it leaves the trappers hands. But the trapper is free to ad that value and rake in all those sweet risk free profits for himself.

Does anyone know if the Chinese are even going to show up at the FHA auction? Fha had a letter out last week, didn't they? Saying non effected from flu in China. Lot buyers were book to go ? Groeny don't pay any $8 average in beaver around here. Seems like pay better down south than up north here

Does anyone know if the Chinese are even going to show up at the FHA auction? The Chinese can participate in the FHA auction without being in Toronto. North American brokers can inspect the goods and communicate via text and phone with the Chinese buyers. That is one of the pluses of having the sale in Toronto, better electronics at the NAFA facility.

There will be hundreds of buyers at the auction. And there will be no fire sale. Whoever is pushing this doom and gloom crap can take a hike. Seriously. And I have sold 1000s of pelts I've been trapping since I was veary young. With my father and grand father. I am a furrier as well as a Trapper and I have attended many auctions over the years. I also know how the game works in the industry as I am apart of it. We buy hundreds of pelts every year at auction and then get them dressed for garment making. Any way I'm not arguing. I'm just stating facts. If you want the best price sell at auction. If you want to get ripped off sell to a country buyer. Plain and simple. But some US like getting craped on. ......the fact is you can say yes or no to the country buyers price!!!!!!!! good luck with that when you ship!!!!your at there mercy!! plain and simple!! I have always done better in the country.

I don't really think anyone is pushing doom and gloom. I think they look at the NAFA train wreck and ask, "are there any survivors?" If NAFA will fire-sale trappers fur, before bankruptcy, liquidating the "assets in possession" to settle accounts ain't gonna slow 'em down any. I hope that the trappers get treated fairly, and I hope that FHA not only learns from NAFA's mistakes, but they are able to improve their position. and the trapper's position, for the future. Now if someone told me that NAFA marinated the fur in gasoline, and then someone lit a match, I wouldn't be a bit surprised. Country Buyers ROCK!

If you don't have the bodies on the floor bidding against each other It's not going to be much of a auction.
Then of coarse with this corona thing keeping shoppers from shopping and workers home and not making garments Is there a real need for more fur. It seems to me if you have a store full of unsold inventory why acquire more.
Something to think about.

It can go either way. A few years back I went to a district meeting in Emporia hosted by Coyotekillermiller. Thats not my district but its not far and took about 20 stretched coyotes. He offered me 21 tail count and I held out for 24. So we shook hands and I brought my skins home. Shipped all my coyotes to NAFA. After commissions I got 18.
I dont understand all the ill will toward the local guy. I used to run over to the local guy here and get coons when the weather was bad. I would flesh and stretch them then take em back to make a few bucks. I have taken my own fur home from there more than once when we didnt agree on price. Need some castor or a bobcat carcass in a quick hurry? How about a jar of bladder pee?
I say support your local buyer. Its a real benefit to have one.
