I’ll post pic as a reply, for some reason it won’t upload to a new thread. It’s only on one tree out of 5 and it’s only on the north side of the trunk.

Well i apologize, it won’t let me upload the picture. I normally don’t have any problem loading pictures but for some reason when i add the picture it just shows the trapperman home screen.

Hard to guess what it might be. Maybe try describing it (i.e. color, texture, size...)

It’s small green patches of something growing, looks almost like little green fish scales in a cluster about an inch round.

That is the beginning of ectopic branching. The tree probably had a wrap on the trunk that you or someone removed. The tree is reacting to sunshine on the trunk sending out the first growth to become extra branches.

That’s interesting, i’ll have yo look that up. There hasn’t been a wrap on this tree for at least the two years i’ve had it.

Do you have Native Americans near you?
I heard they put that on there so that they will know which way is north. (or something like that.)

I’d say you’re right Lee, it looks like there’s many variations of lichens. It caught my eye and for some reason only grew on the one tree.

Sun scalding and the bark is broken and the new sap is a culture medium for the bacterial or mold growth. copper sulfate spray for the cure
could have been deer scrap !

Don Stiffler, White marlin is a member here, i am sure he can shed some light on the situation. He is a tree man with lots of experience.

Looking at the separation spacing I would feel without seeing it more closely it will become a new growth emergence. Emergent growth is not uncommon in some trees and other plant life.. It can be coupled with sap leaching to feed the growth.

Some of these things can be the result of trauma to the weather exposed conditions on that side of the tree. Nature has built in growth triggers that are primed and then react as a result of suitable growth conditions being reached. Not sure of this unless I can see a very close look at one of the areas. It appears to be leafy growth from what I can tell.

Unfortunately out of this particular tree it is not smooth skin, sweet, or a crisp taste!! I haven’t quite got growing apples down yet. With the spray regimen that everyone recommends i don’t think i’ll even mess with it.
