As some of you are aware, one of Alaska Trappers Association greatest supporters and avid volunteers, Leroy Shank, passed away last month at age 79.

Leroy's granddaughter is having a get together in his memory this coming Saturday, June 5, at 4 pm at Leroy's place off Nordale Road, 2251 Severns Drive. All trappers welcome.

Leroy was one of the founding members of ATA; with us from the start. Any early Director, serving for many years.

He was the Master of Ceremonies for the Trappers Fling each March for a long, long time. Providing amusing "adult supervision" that was cringe-worthy but hysterical.

Leroy himself was Trapper of Year at one point, in recognition of his long service.

Leroy was also famous for being one of the two people who dreamed up the Yukon-Quest International Dog Sled Race between Fairbanks and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.

And of course he was quite the trapper and dog musher himself.

Anyone in the Fairbanks-North Pole area, please come out and "say good bye..." If you need better directions. Call me. 907-388-7204.
