I caught 3 cats with about 25 traps out and I thought I was purdy special until that big meany Mark June posted a profile picture with 7. He acts all nice and stuff but I say we should watch him because he is hard on my fragile ego!
Leftlane, Does this help your plight? CVS has antacids on special this week if y'all need a pocket full bro!

If you are over 65 and have trapped/fur hunted every year since the 60's this may hit home a little stronger. Rather than #'s of animals caught how about a Grand Slam of animals caught in 1 day. That is (to me) the true meaning of the word "trapper". A Grand Slam is at least 1 species of the common fur bearers in your area caught in one 24 hour period. I respect the outdoors man/woman who knows enough about each one to catch it during that time frame. Shows me they KNOW animal habits and don't have to have traps set behind locked gates. They are dealing with lower #'s, poorer access, thievery, different soils and weather fluctuations that others don't. Being specific makes for good photos but diversity in a day portrays a certain skill level not found in this "tube". Takes a lot of gear, knowledge and coordination to do it and sometimes the season dates don't coincide but an unintended otter, cat, fisher, etc, etc., would still count if they are considered common. Bobcats, otters, porkys, spotted skunks, grey fox, weasels are not common here ( although we did have a slight weasel pop. show up when we had 30,000 acres and 40,000 acres of CRP in adjoining counties for a short time in the early 90's but that disappeared when the corn returned). I have made this Grand Slam diverse catch twice since I started in the 60's. Here is my list of the common fur creatures all taken in 1 - 24 hour check out in this corn belt country: I'm sure yours would be different.....Muskrat, mink, beaver, coon, opossum, skunk, coyote, red fox, and badger (the hardest one due to habits). I had (in those different day checks) 16-19 coon as the most of 1 species and 1 badger each day as the least, 4-8 mink, 2-5 beaver, 9-10 rats, 3- to too many opossums, 2-5 skunks, 3-4 coyotes and 2-3 fox. Again they were 2 special days and I haven't tried to duplicate it for 20 years. Probably too old to!!!!!! But I applaud the person who who shows that knowledge and makes a diverse catch of species on public and private lands. IMO that,,,,,,,, is a real trapper.

Most trappers wont publish numbers because they will either be seen as a braggart or incompetent.

My biggest catches in one day are puny compared to others...but variety makes trapping a lot of fun for me. Water line catch 1 day Mixed bag rats-coon-fox catch another day Mixed bag rats-coyote-fox-mink-possum catch another day
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
