So if this country would be divided in two, who would support the red Republican states?
Right now the red states are on the dole, and the blue states pay for it. The red states mostly pay less in taxes than they receive from the federal treasury.
So who will support the red states to keep them out of third-world nation status?
The funniest thing is they gripe about urban welfare, when they're the biggest welfare recipients of all.
Jim James I am sure that you understand that we are talking about people on welfare being paid to reproduce, not other programs, so what was the point of bringing them up? Building roads in red states to allow food to be distributed to the masses of welfare recipients in blue states is in your fellow liberal voters benefit. Farm subsidies to keep food prices low are also used to feed your poor liberals in cities. Keith

I think that a lot of folks on here would be shocked or outright refuse to believe who the single largest demographic block of welfare recipients are. I say this because the handout rant seems to coincide with civil unrest in the big cities. Maybe I’m wrong, watched a special on welfare in America several years ago. Covered all forms of government handouts from food stamps to agribusinesses subsidies. Maybe outdated but I was surprised on several points.

Jim It couldn't just be divided red state / blue state. People would have to physically choose what side they wanted to be on, and move. Which is never going to happen so it's a moot point. A lot of red states have an unnaturally high percentage of democrats on welfare. A state like NY or CA, for example, have a high percentage of successful democrats not on the state dole, while a state like MS or AR has very few successful liberals.
Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.

In fiscal year 2019, the federal government spent $4.4 trillion, amounting to 21 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP). Of that $4.4 trillion, over $3.5 trillion was financed by federal revenues. The remaining amount ($984 billion) was financed by borrowing. As the chart below shows, three major areas of spending make up the majority of the budget:
Social Security: In 2019, 23 percent of the budget, or $1 trillion, paid for Social Security, which provided monthly retirement benefits averaging $1,503 to 45 million retired workers in December 2019. Social Security also provided benefits to 3 million spouses and children of retired workers, 6 million surviving children and spouses of deceased workers, and 10 million disabled workers and their eligible dependents in December 2019.
Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and marketplace subsidies: Four health insurance programs — Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace subsidies — together accounted for 25 percent of the budget in 2019, or $1.1 trillion. Nearly three-fifths of this amount, or $651 billion, went to Medicare, which provides health coverage to around 61 million people who are over age 65 or have disabilities. The rest of this category funds Medicaid, CHIP, and ACA subsidy and marketplace costs. In a typical month, Medicaid and CHIP provide health care or long-term care to about 82 million low-income children, parents, elderly people, and people with disabilities. (Both Medicaid and CHIP require matching payments from the states.) In 2019, 9.6 million of the 11.4 million people enrolled in health insurance through the ACA marketplace received subsidies that lower premiums and out-of-pocket costs, at an estimated cost of about $56 billion.
Defense and international security assistance: Another 16 percent of the budget, or $697 billion, paid for defense and security-related international activities. The bulk of the spending in this category reflects the underlying costs of the Defense Department. The total also includes the cost of supporting operations in Afghanistan and other related activities, described as Overseas Contingency Operations in the budget, funding for which totaled $77 billion in 2019.

I’m not for dividing the country, cut their checks and freebies off , if they start any trouble shoot them and let the buzzards sort them out. You live in one of the biggest taker states. When all that welfare is cut off, your economy will be in shambles. Jim
