And your links say..?
You have something more recent that says differently? Better data than the Rockefeller Institute's?

I'll let you do that research, since you're the one with questions.
I decided not to do the work for myself, and to rely on the many links I found (I only posted three links) that all say pretty much the same thing.

Wetdog, once again I ask, do you have some better data than the Rockefeller Institute?

From your link, RockCrick:
"While the economy has been on the upswing over the last year, the cost of living has continued to rise and incomes have remained stagnant, causing many state and local governments to continue to spend billions on public welfare each year."
Your article focuses on state and local spending, not federal government dollars I was talking about.
Why shouldn't the individual states be able to decide how much welfare they want to support?

No one has offered any links or other evidence to contradict mine.
Steven, I didn't mean to generalize--that's why I said "mostly."
Have y'all thought up a name for this new country of yours?
Jim It would be called America ..... . You liberals can call your country what ever you like while waving a rainbow flag

You are mixing up welfare and overall government spending. The information in the links you provided indicates that blue states pay more than they receive. While true, that is all federal funding so if a state that is large sparsely populated and often has a lot of public land and military installations, of course they might get more federal funds than they pay. To say red states are welfare states doesn’t line up, sure Mississippi yes, but most of the western red states are receiving federal funds, not in the form of handouts. Does some of this subsidize and support small regional economies? Sure, but I am sure you would be for a lot of the federal spending in a red state unless you don’t like public land, national parks, renewable energy etc. The federal spending that goes on in a lot of red states is infrastructure that just happens to be located in a red state. Thanks for breaking it down in digestible pieces.

Federal highway money has nothing to do with paying people for being deadbeats. Government give a 15 year old housing food stamps and a check every month for getting knocked up, Tell's her she will get more if she has more kids, her baby daddy moves in, her daughter turns 15 and mom tells her its time to contribute. So daughter gets knocked up. Original mom's original baby daddy is in prison now but she has been making regular trips to the emergency room threatening suicide. 3-4 trips to the state hospital so now she gets S.S. disability. She is teaching her kids how to get all this money and aid also. After all it is owed to them. Dont you watch TV? Reparations sister, for all those years we were slaves.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I actually had words with a “female” that stated until all were “equal” that the riots were justified. She literally stated just because I worked for everything I have, doesn’t give me the right to stop others from taking it. And where this came from I have no clue, but she also stated that the riots were valid because they wanted people to produce ID’s to vote and only the “rich” could afford that and until we are all equal in monetary income, voting rights, and possessions, that the riots should continue. She didn’t like my philosophy of working for what you want or either I’d stack bodies as a barrier before I allowed my town or house to be pillaged, she then wished me and my family a gruesome death.
Over the past 10 years or so where I work, and I’ve been warning them, have been hiring the wrong kinds of people. The job really requires some modicum of common sense, honesty and integrity. A premium has been placed on a piece of paper that someone else paid for that says they’re smart and how much they can play on a computer without really knowing what they’re doing...but it looks good and they think anything they produce on a screen is good data when it is absolutely hydrologically impossible. The males are effeminate and the females are angry “social justice “ types that have now formed their own “squad” looking for any issue or anything that they construe as “offensive” to stir up trouble. The bosses, now that they’re stuck with them, say nothing and give thumbs up to anything they say to show they feel their woke plight. I don’t see this turning around without A MAJOR reset. This may fester few more months but when President Trump gets re-elected by the silent majority these type people will go even more insane and the “woke” will have to be really woke. I could never have imagined we would get here. The post is about so many on welfare and assistance and this entitlement mentality has had time to become generational since the sixties. This is a tremendous problem in the area where I live, I’d venture to safely guess that close to half are on several checks monthly. Never worked a day in their lives and never will unless something changes. The common excuse I hear is usually “ what about the innocent kids”? This is a legitimate problem. The kids are in effect the major breadwinners of the check drawing family and their goal in life is to get their own checks at 18. It’s common to see some overweight lazy guy parked in a handicap spot with three or four little dirty faced kids while the live in goes in the store with her food stamp card. He’s too lazy about to walk. I’m afraid that it’s time to be choosing a side for what we face and steel ourselves to the acceptance of it.
Danny, we were typing at the same time. You know too I see.

California could easily be its own country. It has land, resources, population, diverse economy and produces lots and lots of food. About the only thing lacking there is fresh water.

And they make so much money with so little time working and have a love for the outdoors that makes them pitch tents and go camping in the streets. Its must be a great place to live.
