Dump them out on a regular basis. Redmond's conditioner- clay keeps algae under control.

Copper will help reduce algae build up in tanks. Just like putting an old penny in your dogs water dish only on a larger scale.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

If you find something other then a scrub brush and a little bleach, please let me know as we have over 40 tanks and clean them twice a week during the summer. All copper fittings and float so that doesn't work.

I used to trap a bucket of minnows, put them in the stock tank. Kept the skeeters down. and no algae. Also a handy spot to get bait, if going fishing.. old243

Why clean stock tanks? I've never done more then clean the gunk out of the bottom occasionally.

gold fish and put a rough cut piece of wood in there for shade for the fish. Algae is bad for cattle. But if you like to give your cattle shots of ivermectim just do nothing.

plants are great water filters and don't poop in your tank.

I agree with JD on adding a rough cut board to each tank it helps cut down the moss and gives the birds something to land on so your not having to clean out dead birds from the tank .

Depending on the tanks I've used a flat nosed gravel shovel to clean out the gunk off the bottom of the tanks the exception was a tank made from oak planks I doubt it was ever cleaned out very seriously it was spring fed and had a ring of moss around it constantly and the deer and coyotes didn't mind the moss .

330,

Say for a 700 gallon tank just a couple gold fish will do. They eat the algae and I have not had a problem the the poo. Also a piece of rough cut cedar or white oak will also collect heat in the winter from the sun and help melt the ice, but probably not in Minnesota but in Arkansas it really helps. I also use Redmond Conditioner I throw a handful in the tank every now and again. It soaks up the toxins. It sounds cooky but really works!

We built a hot tub with one when I was a kid. Set it on cinder blocks and built a fire under the middle. Girls in bikinis and cheap beer, we had a ball for a few days till the middle caved in lol
