They sure came tough these beaver hunters. Crawling 250 miles through Indian infested country to Ft Kiowa with near mortal grizzly wounds. Found this image of the ol' Irishman. Enjoy!

Now read the book on John Colter. He was also in the L&C Expedition and chose not to return to St. Louis.

The books on Colter are great. I know alot of the country he traveled between the Big Hole and Jackson Hole

My oldest brother tried to retrace the historical travel routes of John Colter and even went so far as to dive under water and enter an abandoned beaver lodge on the same stretch of water that Colter supposedly had. (Summer time I think)

1971 movie called Man in the Wilderness is about Hugh Glass. Richard Harris plays Hugh Glass. The original had a scene where Hugh fights off wolves that had killed a bison near him and in the movie he pulls off a piece of raw meat still steaming and quivering! Great scene but removed later on.
