The tail length would be a dead give away but can't see anymore of it. A bobcat tail can be 7 inches long so not sure there is enough tail exposed to tell that way.

If I had to guess I say bobcat.

You'd have to squint pretty darn hard to see anything other than a bobcat.

The girth at the tail base alone gives it away as a bobcat. Not to mention the white behind the ear and belly spots...

At first glance I though lion also. But face a bit two blunt and ears appear pointed whereas cougar are more rounded. Also base of tail not thick enough for long tailed lion. Thus I say bobcat.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I think bctomcat stated it very well. The spot behind the ear looks too light to be anything but a bobcat. It is very long and a I would say it is a very big one.I can't see the tail butt well enough but I can tell you, lion tail bases vary from 6.5" to 9" in circumference. That is from small to huge.Personally,I would rather have a large, male bobcat on my line than a mountain lion, any day.You should eventually get more pictures.Hopefully, they will be more clear.
