If you really want to let people know you're not from the Pacific Northwest, pronounce Oregon as,
Origone, but if you want to pronounce it how it supposed to be pronounced, just say "organ", like a body part.

I used to be a firefighter for the forest service when i was college. I worked here in Minnesota but got an assignment to Oregon (Organ). We were flown to Redmond and then were assigned a school bus to be driven around in for our fire detail. The women driving the bus was a rather large, chain smoking, voicetress and proud Organ-ite. First person from MN that said "Origone" was immediately corrected and was threatened with physical violence. I've pronounced it "Organ" ever since.

Yes, I was in Basic Training with a kid from Organ. He let everyone know right away it isn't Orrie-gone.
I also was in BT with a kid from Ohio. He didn't pronounce the O's. It is Uh-hyuh.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.
