I saw this trap posted on a Face Book trapping page and the person posting was asking for information. It seems too light for a bear trap and the chain is attached to the jaws.

Does anyone know what this is, It is interesting but does not seem very practical?

The spring is stamped H Diedrich.

Very nice work. I’ve seen bear traps have similar chain hookups and you wrap the chain loosely around the jaws. As the animal pulls the chain makes the jaws tighter.
I don’t think it’s a bear trap but maybe a wolf trap.
The pan assembly missing could mean it had a detachable assembly or the trap was triggered with a stick to act as a pan or bait hook.

Very nice work.
